If you haven't heard of rising Atlanta duo EarthGang yet, now is the perfect time to hop on board. It was just announced that they have signed to J. Cole's Dreamville Records which is sure to boost their popularity and presence in the hip-hop world.
To ride the hype of this new announcement, EarthGang have released the Rags EP, their first new project in two years. Rappers Johnny Venus and Doctur Dot trade long, technical verses with powerful choruses over beats unlike most of their Atlanta peers. While most young stars out of the hip-hop mecca are focused on riding the trap wave, EarthGang focus on smooth jazz and soul as a throwback to the Atlanta sound of the Outkast era. Features from Mick Jenkins, Childish Major, and labelmate J.I.D. add versatility to the EP and seamlessly blend in with the duo.
Rags EP is the first in a three-part series, and their sophomore album will follow after that. It seems we are going to be seeing a lot more of these two in the future and we can't wait to see what they have in store. Enjoy!
