YES! A new Kendrick Lamar album is here! His fourth studio album DAMN. spans 14 tracks and brings on features from artists including Rihanna on "LOYALTY.", U2 on "XXX." and past collaborator Zacari on "LOVE.". After our first listen it's sounding incredible as Kendrick continues to progress as an artist and actually sings on multiple very chill tracks alternated with some of the hardest hitting songs we've heard from him to date.
Like past Kendrick projects, DAMN. includes uncredited vocals from numerous artists throughout the project. BADBADNOTGOOD confirmed there are Kaytranada vocals on "LUST." and The Internet's Steve Lacy confirmed Anna Wise has vocals on "PRIDE.", which he produced. Anna has worked with Kendrick on past projects and the combo has yet to disappoint.
Whenever Kendrick drops a new project, it’s an event surrounded in speculation and anticipation. He put the world in a whirlwind when he dropped his single “The Heart Part 4” where he hinted at a new release on April 7th. Then he followed it up with another incredible track “HUMBLE.” along with a music video that racked up an insane amount of plays and was all people seemed to be talking about for days. When his artwork was revealed it went viral and was turned into countless memes. This infatuation is no surprise after his last album To Pimp A Butterfly went platinum and earned him 11 Grammy nominations after venturing away from the sound on his previous releases.
What did surprise some people was his return to making hard-hitting raps after he went left-field for his last release that was more of a jazz fusion and funk / soul album than a rap release. After a number of clues we came to the conclusion this album was going to be Kendrick’s hardest to date.
The full project brings on production from James Blake, BADBADNOTGOOD, Mike WiLL Made-It, The Alchemist, Steve Lacy (of The Internet), 9th Wonder, DJ Dahi, Cardo and his frequent collaborator Sounwave.
